Event Description

The Art of Humans Being --Explorations in Creating the New Economy

July 16-19, 2012

The Essex Conference Center & Retreat

If the current shift in financial and economic systems is an opportunity, how can we re-pattern our ideas around money, value, and appreciation and start living the new story?

The Art of Humans Being is a series of events committed to helping discover and live the best of who we are as human beings.  It is not a plan to save the world. It is a pattern for gathering to learn, to spark, to imagine, to innovate.  We come together in a spirit of learning and the conversational practices of The Art of Hosting, Women Moving the Edge, and The School for Collective Leadership.  We contribute to movements rooted in principles of participative leadership and social collaboration.

Explorations in Creating the New Economy is created from awareness that we all live in dramatically changing financial and economic times.

Money, and myths of money, are fundamental scripts that dominate much of what we do for a living, who we think we are, and how we relate to others. Myths about money and wealth, taken to scale, have created gross environmental destruction, human degradation, exploited labor markets, and distorted gender roles. People everywhere are beginning to challenge money and economic stories.  To explore and begin to create the new.

From the streets where Occupy opened our eyes and awareness we gather in the deep womb of nature to learn - from her and one another - how to create a new economic vision and reality for generations to come.

"Happy Birthday Occupy Wall Street ... thoughts on Year One"

Fifteen years ago, I ran across a book, "100 Most Influential People in History," during one of my dalliances to my local Marin County bookstore. "Influential People" was one man's assessment on exactly that. But how he determined his rankings was the interesting part. They weren't always the reasons you would think. But after thinking about it, they made complete sense. For example:George Washington was ranked in the top 40 of all time. Understandable. But the reason why ... not so much. You…See More
