Jim Barton has been politically active since the 1972 McGovern presidential campaign. Over that time he has lived in Boston, the San Francisco Bay Area & West Germany. He was involved in the anti-nuclear Clamshell Alliance in New England, cofounded the Green Party of California, and in 2007 helped start one of the first Transition Town groups in North America.

He believes that those more oriented towards political and large scale transformation (elections, politics, protests), while a diverse group; often speak a different language than those oriented towards inner and personal transformation-- and that this cultural divide is too rarely addressed.

He has been involved in #OccupyAsheville since its first meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 28th. Although he saw the anti-nuclear movement blossom in 1977-'78 and the anti-apartheid movement in Spring 1985, he has never seen something like this year. He hopes the Asheville City Council does not pull the permit for the legal #OccupyAsheville camping site in a little used downtown parking lot.

He has a rough website at http://thegreatconvergence.blogspot.com
