We're honored to have Molly Rowan Leach, host of the leading-edge dialogue series for Evolutionary Lawyers and a series on "Unitive and Restorative Justice and Social Healing in the US and b...
Molly will spark conversation Monday morning for a topic that is on the hearts and minds of many–a just and humane prison system. This has been echoed by the #Occupy movement via Occupy for Prisoners.
Should the prison system be a privatized source of profit? What can be done about wealthy corporations that drive prison legislation and, in turn, reap windfall profits from filling empty beds and slave-wage prison labor? How do we secure guarantees for prisoners' human rights? How did get to be a problem? What can be done?
We look forward to your participation, energy and support for this vital concern for restoring the health and well-being of our society. regarding the health

Today's conversation re: restorative justice opened a powerful discourse for our cafe. The topic of justice and the prison system here in the US is deep and wide. It is an area where social and economic justice have collapsed into one another to form a black hole in America's soul. Our culture tends to believe the myth that slavery ended (repeat of above link) back around the time of the civil war. It didn't really end then and is currently at a scale that dwarfs those earlier days. We need to look at this issue as it is, call it for what it is and be appalled that the United States of America has industrialized and "legitimized" slavery through the prison system.
We will continue programming on the justice system for the future. I was speaking to Molly just a short while ago and suggested Occupy Cafe might open a section for Restorative Justice. I advocate a way for people to understand how to take action in their communities to install systems for justice that honors human value and potential. Anyone else who feels moved in this direction. There are quite a number of channels to open for discussion:
to name just a few for illumination.
Check the audio above to hear the conversation.
