A New Economy-- Exploring the Heart of Sustainability

Greetings to all Occupiers in this cafe.

The "Core Conversation" thread seems to be rife with talk of a different structure and process for what we call our "economy." I am creating this thread with the idea of hauling all that rich conversation over here and re-opening the Core Conversation thread to an exploration of other topics that might one day grow up to be their own threads as well.

Here is where we can critique the old economy if that is your bent, thrash out the meaning and structure of a new economy, the values we hold most dear about energy exchange with our world that truly values the others who share this world, whether it is by legislation or by grass-roots one-brick-at-a-time rebuilding. What needs tweaking? What needs to be discarded.

How do we begin? What are the steps? Where is it happening already?

I vision a fresh warm spring where all conceptual categories of "people" have melted away like the ice of a cold winter!   People are people!  People are seen as the  completely unique individuals that they are.  People are no longer grouped into the categories of "New Age people" or "Tea Party people" or "Gay people" or "Occupation people" or "Homeless people" or... or... or...  I also see a fresh warm spring where we have also been able to release the categories we have put ourselves into.

By the way, I have really appreciated the long discussion above.  You all have helped new gears turn for me.  I do not want to stop the flow of that conversation. I just want to add the interlude of a different energy.  Thank you all!

In regards to types of thinking there is also body-thinking.  Sometimes this body just knows what to do next.

"People", of course, is a category of living being. "Individual" is a very narrow category of thing - it is a thing seen in isolation of its surroundings or environs. Our minds cannot think nor can we speak but in categories, which have their limited usefulness, but cannot be imagined away except by reducing who we are.

There are more non-human cells in a human body than human cells. So can we even label ourselves by the category "human"?

The expression of our genetic blueprint, our DNA, is determined by coded information - messages - from outside of our skin, from our environs. How is it, then, that we suffer under the illusion that we are either individual or unique. Are snowflakes more alike than different? Do those differences matter in the great scheme of things?

Is any one of us indispensable to the evolution of Gaian life on this little planet? Does Gaia mourn for us when we are swept away in a tsunami or tornado? Does she even miss us?
