'Occupy the Highway' Makes for Historic March from Wall Street to Washington DC

NEW YORK - November 9 - Today (Wednesday, November 9th) a well-prepared and energized contingent from Occupy Wall Street will embark upon “Occupy the Highway”, a march from Wall Street to Washington DC.

This march of civic energy and solidarity will begin in Liberty Square (Zuccotti Park) and end, two weeks later, in Washington DC at the Congressional Super-Committee Meeting. Marchers will trek approximately 20 miles a day, holding rallies with Occupy Philly, Occupy Baltimore, and Occupy DC, as well as nightly General Assembly (GA) meetings along the way.

Organizers draw inspiration from the long, historic marches of the Civil Rights Movement and like those marches, participants hope to encourage increasing numbers of the 99% in rural communities to become involved and to spread the principles of the Occupy Movement along the way.

Arriving at the final destination, the meeting of the Congressional Super-Committee, a rally will be held to demand the members of the committee serve the 99% and let the tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans expire.

The route is as follows:

11/9/11: Liberty Square to Elizabeth, NJ
11/10/11: Elizabeth, NJ to New Brunswick, NJ
11/11/11: New Brunswick, NJ to Trenton, NJ
11/12/11: Trenton, NJ to Andalusia, PA
11/13/11: Andalusia, PA to Occupy Philly
11/14/11: DAY OFF AT OCCUPY PHILLY
11/15/11: Occupy Philly to Wilmington, DE
11/16/11: Wilmington, DE to Newark, DE
11/17/11: Newark, DE to Rising Sun, MD
11/18/11: Rising Sun, MD to Bel Air, MD
11/19/11: Bel Air, MD to Occupy Baltimore
11/20/11: DAY OFF AT OCCUPY BALTIMORE
11/21/11: Occupy Baltimore to Laurel, MD
11/22/11: Laurel, MD to Occupy DC
11/23/11: Occupy DC to The White House for Super Committee meeting

Occupy Wall Street is leaderless resistance movement with people of many colors, genders and political persuasions. The one thing we all have in common is that We Are The 99% that will no longer tolerate the greed and corruption of the 1%. We are using the revolutionary Arab Spring tactic to achieve our ends and encourage the use of nonviolence to maximize the safety of all participants.

This #ows movement empowers real people to create real change from the bottom up. We want to see a general assembly in every backyard, on every street corner because we don't need Wall Street and we don't need politicians to build a better society.

"Happy Birthday Occupy Wall Street ... thoughts on Year One"

Fifteen years ago, I ran across a book, "100 Most Influential People in History," during one of my dalliances to my local Marin County bookstore. "Influential People" was one man's assessment on exactly that. But how he determined his rankings was the interesting part. They weren't always the reasons you would think. But after thinking about it, they made complete sense. For example:George Washington was ranked in the top 40 of all time. Understandable. But the reason why ... not so much. You…See More
