OCCUPY OCCUPY CAFE

After founding and running Occupy Cafe for a year and a half, Jitendra and Ben have moved on to other projects.

HOWEVER, we still see new members pop up here and there.  The conversations and the concerns have not gone away.

IF you feel inspired to take up the charge and reinvigorate activity here at the cafe, let us know by way of a post here that you're interested. Or send us a message.

We may not get back to you instantly because we're not checking that often, but you will get a response.

I'm certainly willing to help with taking this forward, if a little group of people forms here, that is insane enough to take this on :-)  ...I'm in!

I strongly believe that in the spirit of Occupy Cafe, there is a need for a "connecting hub" where we can put our minds together to develop vision and confidence to moving forward. In Occupy Cafe calls, we've talked several times about the fact that *not* having concrete goals is a *quality* of the Occupy movement, and that coming together to cross-pollinate our visions and ideas is what is unique, special and important about the movement. I think Occupy Cafe was an excellent way of how this manifested itself, and if we can find a way to carry this forward, I'm willing to commit my share to it.

Good to hear, Chris!  What comes to mind for you when you think about "visions and ideas?" Is there particular terrain that feels most inspiring?

The most inspiring terrain to me is the terrain of bringing *all* different ideas and visions together and encouraging them to cross-pollinate :-) ...but since that is probably not the answer you were looking for, the areas that are frontmost in my mind are decentralization, re-inventing our democracies and bringing them down to the local levels, into our neighbourhoods. Building ways to bring people together, to join the conversation, to participate, to activate civil society and to self-organize. Open minded, open hearted conversations about ongoing experiments and experience with ideas and visions in such contexts as the transition movement and related projects, permaculture principles, organizational best practices, economic concepts, preserving and rediscovering valuable traditions and conserving the good in our current realities.

"Happy Birthday Occupy Wall Street ... thoughts on Year One"

Fifteen years ago, I ran across a book, "100 Most Influential People in History," during one of my dalliances to my local Marin County bookstore. "Influential People" was one man's assessment on exactly that. But how he determined his rankings was the interesting part. They weren't always the reasons you would think. But after thinking about it, they made complete sense. For example:George Washington was ranked in the top 40 of all time. Understandable. But the reason why ... not so much. You…See More
