As a long-time subtle activist and now, a supporter of the Occupy Movement, it's been heartening to see that subtle activism practices have played a role in the movement. The most direct example I'm aware of are the Occupy encampments that have provided space for spiritual practices such as meditation, prayer or simply holding a sacred space or stillpoint, on behalf the movement.

I also know that many groups, including my own primary subtle activism "pod," the Gaiafield Alliance Council, are offering recurring subtle activism events in support of the movement. (See more about our twice monthly calls here: http://www.gaiafield.net/). In addition to recurring teleconference call meditations/practices, these events include individual but synchronized practices, such as asking people to spend a minute in silent prayer/blessings in support of Occupy at 1 pm, local time, every day; or more visible events such as the meditation flash mobs that are convened in public settings around the world.

For purposes of our discussion here, I'd like to offer the following questions:

1) What other subtle activism practices have you witnessed in the Occupy Movement?

2) How might we help to enhance awareness of subtle activism and its potential value in supporting and advancing the movement?

3) If you are new to subtle activism, what questions do you have?

4) What other aspects of this topic would you like to see explored here at Occupy Cafe?

Finally, if you self-identify as a subtle activist or feel a call to practice subtle activism, please do join our subtle activism group here.

Looking forward to our conversation!

I personally think Flash Mob group meditation in Shopping Malls is a great way to 1- show people what meditation is and 2- give an example that there are perhaps deeper and more wholesome ways to happiness rather than being consumer monkeys!

I find this video inspiring and I'm thinking of organising the same here in  London, UK.

Would love to join your subtle activism group!

Andy

Done! I saw a member was talking about a subtle activism group call. I'd be interested in joining that if it's not too late in the night for me! Thanks.

"Happy Birthday Occupy Wall Street ... thoughts on Year One"

Fifteen years ago, I ran across a book, "100 Most Influential People in History," during one of my dalliances to my local Marin County bookstore. "Influential People" was one man's assessment on exactly that. But how he determined his rankings was the interesting part. They weren't always the reasons you would think. But after thinking about it, they made complete sense. For example:George Washington was ranked in the top 40 of all time. Understandable. But the reason why ... not so much. You…See More
