OK, all you Harvesters!  There's work to be done!  Lovely, luscious crops out in the field that will rot and go stale if we do not collect them, process them and cook make them into "digestible meals" to feed our ongoing inquiry!

Again, I offer this simple process:

  • Try taking fifteen or twenty minutes to do the following
  • Browse through the "#Occupy 2.0" discussion and identify one or two things you find compelling.  Look for things such as:
    • Specific phrases, paragraphs or posts
    • General ideas, themes, patterns or questions
    • Things that surprised you or challenged you in some way.
  • Post each individual gleaning separately here in this discussion (i.e. if you found three things you wanted to harvest, give them each their own post).
  • Note that you can link to specific posts from the main discussion so that it is easy to find the original post you are referring to or quoting from:
    • Click the little chain link icon that appears at the top of each post, just before the words "reply by" and the name of the person posting.
    • Copy the url that appears in your browser
    • Paste it into your harvest posting here.

Many hands make light work!

What is taking shape here?  What are we hearing underneath the variety of opinions being expressed?  What is in the center of our listening?

Hi Ellen and all,

Thanks for the note and your comment re the Commons. I am including below and attached the Submission to the Secretariat for the Rio+20 Earth Summit Conference on behalf of the Commons Action for the United Nations (CAUN). You will find our web address at the end of the paper. We would welcome your participation, along with that of interested others, in CAUN; but I am equally interested in how we can infuse Commons thinking and action within the Occupy Movement and engage it in the deliberations re Rio+20 which is focusing on both Creating a Green Economy and eradicating poverty and on the Institutional Framework for Sustainable Development. Both of which should be of primary interest to most occupiers as well as the Commons Movement if we really think about it.

I expect again that an eForum Discussion will soon be started on Occupy Cafe, along with a Cafe Group, focusing on the Commons. My associate, Alanna Hartzok, posted some information on this a week or two ago (I think under the discussion re Occupy 2.0) and Lindsay responded favorably. Thus Alanna said she will start such a discussion within a week or two as she is traveling right now. Look for her post in the meantime. You will see she has written a book entitled, The Earth Belongs to Everyone, which I think you will resonate with.

Thanks again for the chart. I really do hope we will fill it out as these discussions progress and really start to make use of it. I am suggesting to some of the other Cafe Stewards that we should put together an eNewsletter re Occupy Cafe; and if we do so then I think we should include either the diagram or a link to it.

"Happy Birthday Occupy Wall Street ... thoughts on Year One"

Fifteen years ago, I ran across a book, "100 Most Influential People in History," during one of my dalliances to my local Marin County bookstore. "Influential People" was one man's assessment on exactly that. But how he determined his rankings was the interesting part. They weren't always the reasons you would think. But after thinking about it, they made complete sense. For example:George Washington was ranked in the top 40 of all time. Understandable. But the reason why ... not so much. You…See More
