Welcome, Elizabeth!
You asked, "What can we do to elect the next president instead of auctioning off the job to the highest bidder?"
As a long-term election integrity activist, I know of many things we could do. Let me list some of them.
1. Remove the power to allow or disallow corporate money in politics from the Supreme Court and let it be decided by a direct vote of the people.
2. Remove the power to stop the vote count from the Supreme Court and let all votes be counted.
3. Remove the power of central tabulators, elections officials, the media, political parties, Congress, and the Supreme Court to manipulate the unverifiable vote counts and let there be citizen oversight of all election processes.
4. Remove the sole power of Congress to impeach, and let people vote directly on impeachment. We must stop delegating our power to representatives we can't hold accountable during their terms of office, which is the only time we need them to represent us.
5. Urge people not to vote until these conditions are met, so that our lives aren't dictated by uncounted, unverifiable votes for unaccountable "representatives."
It is a real shame that in the United States so many people are scammed into giving their full power of attorney over the national treasury to politicians. If there is to be hope for a better future, people, particularly young people, have to become more aware and more skeptical of multi-billion-dollar funded election campaigns. Corporations don't spend that kind of money without expecting a return, and political parties that accept that money become dependent upon and corrupted by it.
Hi Elizabeth, and a warm welcome :)
