What draws you to Occupy Cafe?
As a First Nations person I have been actively bringing indigenous ways into the every day workings of Occupy Vancouver, mainly through our Environmental Justice Group where I was the architect of our Foundation Document in which our group created a vision , mission statement, adopted the 16 Guiding Principles of 4 Worlds International , the (GehL) Ally Bill of Responsabilities, the creation of a decision making matrix based on our vision/mission/principles, and signed us on to solidarity with the Save The Fraser Declaration and the Rio Rights of Mother Earth Declaration. The Document also contains a Framework of "System Change not Climate Change".

I organized having Chief Phil LaneJr. address OV about the 16 Guiding principles and the talking circle that followed. I'm organizing Chief Phil Lane to teach Talking Circles to OV, and I am holding my own workshop soon on How To Make A Talking Stick.

Occupy Cafe seems like a good way to bring us indigenous people and those within Occupy who dearly want to learn our ways and operate with our ways to connect. If Occupy is to survive then indigenous protocols must be utilized and embodied so we can 'be the change we want to see'.

"Happy Birthday Occupy Wall Street ... thoughts on Year One"

Fifteen years ago, I ran across a book, "100 Most Influential People in History," during one of my dalliances to my local Marin County bookstore. "Influential People" was one man's assessment on exactly that. But how he determined his rankings was the interesting part. They weren't always the reasons you would think. But after thinking about it, they made complete sense. For example:George Washington was ranked in the top 40 of all time. Understandable. But the reason why ... not so much. You…See More
