An open space for global conversation
http://www.stillocupied.comOn a cold rainy day in San Francisco many showed up at different locations throughout the day. This is not like the traditional head count that shows up at a march and you determine the success of the event by the number of people who show up. This Occupy event was a moving target with simultaneous events going on and groups moving from location to location. If the intent was to raise awareness, this was the most effective way to do it. By occupying different locations and groups of Occupyers moving from one place to another, more people got to be exposed to the event then if it was a single march moving down a street. There was a little bit of everything. Street theatre, music and dancing, marching down blocked streets, people chained to bank doors.
Most observers seemed if not supportive at least curious. While in the street I spoke to a number of cab drivers, most who seemed in good humor and supportive. There were some tense moments with police when streets were blocked but no tear gas or pepper spray.
