Since 1st observing the Occupy movement last Oct,2011 & participating in the Occupy movement on june29th-the5th of July I started my own movement in my city called Northeast Philadelphia Movement towards change.

My goal is to have everyone take more responsibility for their communities than just complaining.  Since June1,2012. I've order flyers to hand out in my community of Philadelphia. I also bought to Trash cans have out on the street so people walking by can use them  to recycle and for trash too. Less littering the better. :)

I also trying to develop a STRONGER community. because it seems like most people are giving up on what the meaning of the term "Neighborhood" really means"

This is exactly the direction many of us here at the Cafe have imagined for the Occupy movement, Brian!  I wrote about it here back in December.  An excerpt:

We have already begun to manifest elements of the New Economy via our encampments’ provision of food and services to those in need, the campaign to move money out of big banks, and other actions.  Let us build upon these first steps, and inspire the world, by catalyzing the emergence of the New Economy on a scale that has real and powerful impact.

“Occupying the New Economy” will take place in a myriad of forms, many of which have no doubt yet to be developed or imagined.  Here is a list, by no means exhaustive, of some ways in which we might begin this work now.

  • Meet our neighbors
  • Map the unused human assets that exist within our communities
  • Connect those in need with those who wish to give of themselves
  • Make our streets safer
  • Make our neighborhoods more beautiful
  • Grow our own food and support local farms
  • Reduce energy and other resource consumption and waste
  • Support the shift to green and sustainable processes and technologies
  • Provide food, shelter and medical care to the neediest among us
  • Support local financial institutions and co-create new ones
  • Support local businesses and help revitalize local economies
  • Help find meaningful employment for everyone who wants it
  • Become “shareholder activists”
  • Form “B-Corporations,” cooperatives, LC3s, etc.
  • Identify and protect our Commons
  • Educate ourselves and our communities about what matters most to us
  • Learn what matters most to others
  • Listen deeply and honor each other’s pain
  • Share stories of what inspires us and of what might be possible
  • Celebrate life together
  • [Insert YOUR suggestions here!]

And... rather than taking this on alone, what if we found ways to connect to, learn from and collaborate with the myriad groups and organizations that already exist to do this work as well?  What might be possible?

How might the Occupy Cafe community help you in your work?

Shalom Jerry D.

All the Help is welcomed and of course you can help.

I am looking to organize a non-violent protest in Northeast Philadelphia with 50 plus more occupiers

The more the better to  This protest with be about peace and to stop the violence in the northeast communities of Philadelphia.

Because of the ecomny the neigborhoods of Northeast Philadelphia which had a greater portions of the city's middle class move out and that has brought the criminal activity on the rise.

Here in Northeast Philadelphia we feel like the step child of the city I'll Explain We pay enough taxes to cover more than our share of taxes for city.

In the last 12-15 years here in the NE.city services like street cleaning grafitti removal police force seem to be at a stand still. my goal here with Northeast Philadelphia movement towards ~CHANGE~ is to preserve the beauty that we love enjoy and rightly deserve because we work so hard for what we have a no one deserves to ever to take away from away.

This protest will be a march in the major street where traffic and heavy walking populagtion is.

Rt.76 ~ Cottman Avenue

R1 ~ Roosevelt boulevard

RT. 73 Frankford Ave.

We will need signs & banners that relates to Peace Happines Community Recycling

"Make LOVE not WAR"

To bring to neighborhood together because a strong community is a healthy community.

Please E-mail me at shumskybrian@ymail.com

In the subject write: NE. marching towards peace.

"Happy Birthday Occupy Wall Street ... thoughts on Year One"

Fifteen years ago, I ran across a book, "100 Most Influential People in History," during one of my dalliances to my local Marin County bookstore. "Influential People" was one man's assessment on exactly that. But how he determined his rankings was the interesting part. They weren't always the reasons you would think. But after thinking about it, they made complete sense. For example:George Washington was ranked in the top 40 of all time. Understandable. But the reason why ... not so much. You…See More
