Occupy Christmas  This is a very thoughtful and inspiring article exploring Jesus' action on the money changers in the temple - was he an Ocuppier?  Happy Holidays everyone.

Sarah Palin says that "US law should be based on the God of the Bible."

Sarah Palin (like most Christians), isn't aware of the serious internal conflicts of the Bible. English common law is based on the 10 commandments and much of the Hebrew judicial code, but that conflicts with Christian doctrine. The conflict between common law and the Christian clergy was most evident during the "19 year winter" of the reign of King Stephen, with the English nobles and the laity in favour of the common law and the clergy in favour of Roman law, Christianity being the official religion of Rome.

The reference to usury being an abomination is quite germane here, although the reason for the temple disruption was more about violence than money...

Hi Ben, wish I could meet you too, but we're leaving to visit family in CO tomorrow, so can't be there.  I look forward to future get togethers.  My new years wish is that Occupy 2012 protestors (the People of the Year) begin to hold signs wherever they are that says "I'm a registered Voter."   The vote is where the people's power is, and not enough people vote.  Happy New Year!!

"Happy Birthday Occupy Wall Street ... thoughts on Year One"

Fifteen years ago, I ran across a book, "100 Most Influential People in History," during one of my dalliances to my local Marin County bookstore. "Influential People" was one man's assessment on exactly that. But how he determined his rankings was the interesting part. They weren't always the reasons you would think. But after thinking about it, they made complete sense. For example:George Washington was ranked in the top 40 of all time. Understandable. But the reason why ... not so much. You…See More
