Definition of KLEPTOCRACY

: government by those who seek chiefly status
and personal gain at the expense of the governed; also: a particular government
of this kind

— klep·to·crat noun

— klep·to·crat·ic adjective
"(Merriam Webster Dictionary)

Christopher Hedges used this very apt word,
dating back to 1819, in his "teaching" at OWS.

It is the perfect word to describe our present condition..our present reality as the 99%. Capitalism has over taken, and perhaps, taken over, democracy.

Kleptpocracy is the complete opposite of "conviviocracy"our word for a people's government that serves the whole, serves the earth, serves future generations.

The consent of the governed is a sham in "kleptocracy"..

What is the antidote? What takes down a "Kleptocracy"?

Using this word instead of "democracy" to describe where we are ,what we are up against in trying to drive change  somehow  redefines what makes sense as strategies of change.

We have to find ways to clog the wheels of the existing system..make business as usual within that system impossible but more importantly we have to keep the voice of the 99% alive, clear, radical, revolutionary and moving toward something completely new.

Maybe that also means  rewriting or updating the rule book on non violent  revolution..what does Sharp say about a peaceful swarm of crowd control oficers to de arm them ( Attilla the hun used large nets for example); what about occupying in Hazmat suits so one could simply knock the pepper spray out of the policeman's hand.  What about ways of using the growing physical mass of us to creatively, even humorously if possible, dis arm crowd control?

"Happy Birthday Occupy Wall Street ... thoughts on Year One"

Fifteen years ago, I ran across a book, "100 Most Influential People in History," during one of my dalliances to my local Marin County bookstore. "Influential People" was one man's assessment on exactly that. But how he determined his rankings was the interesting part. They weren't always the reasons you would think. But after thinking about it, they made complete sense. For example:George Washington was ranked in the top 40 of all time. Understandable. But the reason why ... not so much. You…See More
