NOTE: this discussion is now closed to additional posts.  Our dialogue on Occupy 2.0 continues with our Round 3 thread here: http://www.occupycafe.org/forum/topics/occupy-2-0-inquiry-round-3-1...

Occupy Cafe has stepped into the movement-wide conversation now swirling around the evolution of the #Occupy.  This thread continues the discussion begun here and on our 11/15 Cafe Call.

If you have not already done so, please examine the Mind Map produced with prodigious effort by OC Member Ellen Friedman, attached.  We want this conversation to build and evolve, so this kind of harvesting is invaluable.

We offered these questions as the second round of our inquiry commenced:

  • What is taking shape here? What is underneath what we are hearing? What is in the center of our listening?
  • What is missing from the picture so far?  What are we not seeing?  Where do we need more clarity?

Please note that this is a hosted discussion.  We will periodically be asking people to step back or step up, to make sure it is balanced and there is space for all voices to be heard.  We will also ask that side conversations that emerge be taken onto new discussion threads so that this core conversation remains focused and readable.  Thank you in advance for your help with this!

Sobey: here is our basic answer re funding from the "about" pages: http://www.occupycafe.org/page/donate

Currently a few of us are putting in massive hours with no compensation.  We have a modest stream of contributions and we plan to make our finances transparent when there is a cash flow worthy of the effort!  We may seek some larger donors and/or explore Kickstarter of IndieGogo as well.

Cheers,

Thanks Ben! It would be great to link all the Occupies here and have them collectively fund this somehow, even a few of them. To see it funded by it's own movement would be a beautiful thing. Perhaps having it more linked to other sites would be a good help to that too.

From your lips, Sobey...!

I think what we are seeing here is where our power is and some important information about the monetary system we are challenging:

1. We have tremendous wealth and energy of our own which we can put to good use without any "outside" help if we have a shared vision and shared commitment to make it happen.

2.  The collective wealth, i.e. money and the monetary system is the life blood and fluid of our lives and society and decisions about it need to be made by all of us, not simply banks and corporations.

The issue is not that there is only so much to go around and we have to get others to share; it is that the way the system is structured, most of us (the 99%) have little to say about how our time, energy and wealth are distributed and utilized.

Amen!

Round 1 group 2.

How has the message served the movement from 1.0 and what can the message be.

Focus attention to a coup that has happened by government/corporations.
privatization of commons.

2.0 message
dealing w/money interest from government
identify that there is a coup to take over all earths resources (commons)
reclaim these resources.

U.N. commons action (not necessarily supportive of ISO 2600)

ISO 2600 standards organization in Geneva.  Initiates process for corporations to be certified)
gets corporations to express intention
great tool-weak initiative.  Shift to advantage of commons.
Sarbanes-oxley act

corporate personhood
campaign finance reform
manipulation of political process
move your money (banks dominance)

Corp and bankers exploiting all the rest of the world.  Global issue!

Sorry if I missed too much.  These are the notes I was able to take.
Titus

Thank you Titus!  This looks great.  Others can add more if they feel a need.

WE The People & WE Occupy Globally looks for 100% Shift in Consciousness from I to WE, during the World Peace One Showcase event in South Korea

Let's collaborate regarding www.koreasummit.info - www.WEoccupyglobalsummit.info

It's just a simple shift in consciousness from I to WE

This past weekend 40+ people participated in a four-hour meeting of Occupy Wall Street activists whose job it is to come up with the vision and goals of the movement. The discussion was both inspiring and invigorating. Here is what WE ended up proposing as the movement's "vision statement" to the General Assembly of Occupy Wall Street:

WE Envision:

[1] a truly free, democratic, and just society;

[2] where WE, the people, come together and solve our problems by consensus;

[3] where WE the people are encouraged to take personal and collective responsibility and participate in decision making;

[4] where WE learn to live in harmony and embrace principles of toleration and respect for diversity and the differing views of others;

[5] where WE secure the civil and human rights of all from violation by tyrannical forces and unjust governments;

[6] where political and economic institutions work to benefit ALL, not just the privileged few;

[7] where WE provide full and free education to everyone, not merely to get jobs but to grow and flourish as human beings;

[8] where WE value human needs over monetary gain, to ensure decent standards of living
without which effective democracy is impossible;

[9] where WE work together to protect the global environment to ensure that future generations will have safe and clean air, water and food supplies, and will be able to enjoy the beauty and bounty of nature that past generations have enjoyed.

WE welcome your comments.

This is a wonderful vision, Arlan. Connecting it to our discussion here, how do you and others in that conversation imagine Occupy's role in bringing it into being?

Together WE can make a difference!  http://www.aunitedworld.net/OWS/articles/view/171660/

These are nice thoughts on a shaky foundation. My comment here pertains.

Ellen, thanks so much for creating this mindmap harvest. It is great to have something that I can link to in a tweet, making the conversation accessible to the wider Occupy Process.

"Happy Birthday Occupy Wall Street ... thoughts on Year One"

Fifteen years ago, I ran across a book, "100 Most Influential People in History," during one of my dalliances to my local Marin County bookstore. "Influential People" was one man's assessment on exactly that. But how he determined his rankings was the interesting part. They weren't always the reasons you would think. But after thinking about it, they made complete sense. For example:George Washington was ranked in the top 40 of all time. Understandable. But the reason why ... not so much. You…See More
