Navigating the Challenge: A Spontaneous Three Step Approach to Liberation

Step One: Notice your challenge. Identify and name it. Begin the process of visualizing it 'against' you. You should have a real felt-sense

Step Two: Begin to let the tension in that felt sense go. Embrace your challenge in your mind. Simply capture and hold it gently, as though it were a baby animal.

Step Three: Move forward in time with your challenge-free visualizing process. Grow the challenge in your mind into a belligerent teenager. About ten seconds into the…

guidelines for nonviolent actions, both Rapid Response and non emmediate

Hey folks, OCCUPY BAY AREA UNITED is a non violence occugroup based on nonviolence. After a series of problems with vandalism and OSF's inability to deal with this stuff head on, we recently formed.

So we're in the foundation stages, cooking up a sort of guide to ordered, planned actions, including peacekeepers, and rapid response to the media divorcing ourselves from any violent or destructive acts that might ovccur during our actions.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR INPUT from…

The Importance of "New Stories"

When a theme shows up repeatedly from multiple directions, I usually pay attention.  This is happening for me right now with the message about the importance of creating and sharing powerful stories that speak to the possibility of a major transformation of the human presence on this planet.

A core challenge in catalyzing systemic transformation is presenting the possibility (and, I believe the current reality) of that shift in ways that people can easily grasp and become inspired by.…

Do you vote absentee? If so, you need to know about this.

Elections officials in Cudahy, California have agreed to plead guilty to tampering with city elections:

http://www.laobserved.com/archive/2012/07/cudahy_officials_agree_to.php

They simply opened the mail-in ballots and discarded the ones they didn't like.

I believe this practice is widespread, as it is difficult to prove. Elections offices are only open to the public part of the…

Bringing the outdoors indoors.

Living in a city apartment, I don't have much contact with nature. I tried growing organic veggies in pots on my little balcony, but except for the potatoes, they didn't do very well. I think the air is just too polluted, so the potatoes have some protection because they grow underneath the soil.

But recently a friend sent me a link to an article about air-cleansing indoor plants:…

OCCUPY TRUTH: Maine East West Highway/ Utlity Corridor. Come Camp In Sing For Thriveability July 14

Maine, I have discovered, since following our own wisdom here at Occupy Cafe and "taking it back home to the dining room table", is a banana republic firmly on the grip of corporate influence ..for decades..It is being played out now in classic political corruption style over an East West Corridor likely to be the back door of the tar sands pipeline.  In power politics, Robert Moses style, this project was facilitated by secret highway privatization legislation passed in 2010 with no public…

Appreciative Conversation Creates a Clearing for Learning

Ben and Jitendra,

I offer that what you two have developed in "Occupy Cafe" is the beginning of a new dignified discourse within our shared humanity bringing forth the possible possibility for a platform of real significant change in our passionate permanent human concerns. Let us first understand and practice appreciate inquiry and dialog in dignity for the fragility, vulnerability, authenticity and stories owning what owns us in our humanness. Let us convene always in the deep…

Video: "From Consumers to Citizens"

One of my favorite themes.

This video was recently shared on the Art of Hosting list-serve by Ria Baeck via Simon d’Osogna. I just watched it and it really is a lovely nice-quality video about public participation, citing practices used in one region of Austria like Appreciative Inquiry, Wisdom Council, Citizen Juries, and World Café.  I figured some people on this NCDD list might enjoy watching it as well, so am sharing the link.

Oh Canada!

Pretty inspiring things happening Up North these days.  This blog post offers a taste of the sheer joy the mass protests in Montreal are unleashing.  The vimeo clip below captures the essence of this energy beautifully as well.  The post also laments the lack of good coverage in the English language press.  Let's hope that changes soon…

Occupy

I occupy a space, I inhabit myself. I live here, occupying myself. We live here, together, occupied. The somewhat compulsive quality of our active self occupation has maybe caused our occupation of this planet to bring to mind 'conquest', the way nations have occupied nations, the way we've colonized our territories, in the past. It is funny, you know, we' are one species, people, sharing one contained form, in this case, a sphere- but there lingers in the air a sense of having conquered…

"Happy Birthday Occupy Wall Street ... thoughts on Year One"

Fifteen years ago, I ran across a book, "100 Most Influential People in History," during one of my dalliances to my local Marin County bookstore. "Influential People" was one man's assessment on exactly that. But how he determined his rankings was the interesting part. They weren't always the reasons you would think. But after thinking about it, they made complete sense. For example:George Washington was ranked in the top 40 of all time. Understandable. But the reason why ... not so much. You…See More
